Charlaine Harris Interview -The Creation of Sookie
As we True Blood fans know, Charlaine Harris has announced that the bestselling Sookie Stackhouse novels on which our favorite show is based will conclude with the thirteenth volume (volume 12 is due out next year).
Below are portions of the first part of the conversation, in which Harris discusses her approach to writing, her influences, the creation of Sookie Stackhouse, the character’s upcoming final adventures, and what she might do next.
You just finished writing the twelfth Sookie Stackhouse novel…
The penultimate book, because I’m going to finish with the thirteenth.
Is it tough to finish this series, to let it go?
It’s tough to walk away from the money. [Laughs.] Yeah, it is going to be tough.
But you don’t have to.
No. I don’t have to. But I just felt like I’m finishing the story. I don’t have anything left. That’s what I’ve got. I don’t want to keep writing when I’m running on empty. I think we all know writers who have continued to write the same characters when they run out of gas apparently. I just don’t want to be like that.
You’ve written plenty of other novels beside the Southern Vampire Mysteries. Do you have a long list of things you’ve put on the back burner because of Sookie?
Yes, I do. [Laughs.] And honestly it is so exciting to do something different.
How far into the thirteenth Stackhouse novel are you?
Zero! [Laughs.] That’s my next project. When I get home I have to go over the copy-edited pages of Sookie 12, which will be out in May. That will freshen up my memory about what I need to do in Sookie 13, to tie everything together. A seemingly impossible task.
I’m sure you’ve been asked this before, but could you talk about what the twelfth novel will involve?
It’s called Deadlocked. It’s another extension of her adventures, moving a step forward to resolve many of the issues that are brought up in previous books. She gets kidnapped – you know, the usual mayhem. She gets kidnapped, she has to get out of it. The Fey entry into her life is pretty much wrapped up. She learns a lot more about everything really. She learns a lot in this book, the truth. So it was a challenging book to write, and I tried to keep it on track more as a mystery. But there are just so many loose ends to tie up, it’s just incredible. [Laughs.]
Even though Sookie is a mature woman, do you view the entire series, on one level, as a coming-of-age story?
The growth of her character is definitely a major part of the novels, but I wouldn’t call it coming-of-age. She’s a twenty-six year-old woman. But she certainly becomes worldlier, more aware of the other worlds around her. She’s always known what human nature was like, because she’s telepathic. Which is kind of a bitter pill to swallow. But she learns how to live with a lot of things, and what she can’t live with.

Kristin Bauer van Straten, True Blood’s Fierce Bitch
En liten intervju med Kristin Bauer van Straten publicerades idag av City Link. Då Kristin berättar om att vara Pam, hennes favorit karaktärer i serien och hur det är för henne nu när hon är känd.
How has your life changed since True Blood went on the air?
Well, I now have to shower and wear some makeup to go to Starbucks. I have to borrow a little from Pam — be a tad more vain, as I could never say, “no” to a fan wanting a photo because I’m not wearing mascara. And I get asked my thoughts on things and I have lots to say about rights and free will, especially regarding animals, as they are truly innocent and voiceless. It is also possible playing Pam has opened the door to my being seen as a “fierce bitch,” I think is the term and I’m all for that typecasting.
How do you prepare to play Pam and what do you enjoy most about the role? What’s the most challenging part?
I try to be my most dry and sarcastic self. Then, I get in those clothes, sit in hair and makeup for two to five hours, and walk on to those gorgeous sets with these amazing actors, and 80 percent of the work has been created around me. All of that teamwork cannot be underestimated in how important it is to be able to believe I am an immortally bored vampire.
Were you familiar with the True Blood books before taking the role?
I was not. This entire world has been a delightful surprise.
What has been your most-memorable scene on the show so far?
Every year, there are many “most-memorable scenes” in my mind. Even the ones that I feel may be less memorable for Pam, I find out later from fans, that the fabulous dialogue they wrote made an impact. I can tell you I was very curious to see how the face-rotting scenes looked, like the fight scene I had with Rutina [Wesley]. We worked two long nights on that, and I was really hoping I was very edgy. And I hear I was.
Since you played Jerry’s girlfriend with “man hands” on Seinfeld, what were your thoughts on that role and do fans still recognize you for that?
They do. Seinfeld fans are also a great, loyal group. It was such an amazing show. I have played such a variety of parts, I feel more like a character actor in many ways and value that about the parts I have gotten. I did a lot of comedy, many in sitcom format, and it is another world from True Blood and also so much joy.
On True Blood, who has been your favorite character or character(s) to interact with?
I am very partial to my maker, Eric [played by Alexander Skarsgård]. But I also have gotten to threaten Lafayette, flirt with Sookie, scowl at Bill, try to kill Tara a few times, ignore Ginger’s screams, check out Jason and give horrible advice to Jessica.
What is it like working with Alexander Skarsgård?
Fang f-ing tastic.

Intervju med Joe Manganiello
Stephen och Anna pratar om Sookies killar
TV Guide: The Men of True Blood SPOILERS
TV Guide Magazine pratar med Alan Ball, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgård och Joe Manganiello.
“There’s some fun stuff with Sookie and her men coming down the pike,” promises Ball. “The discovery that Sookie is still alive throws Alcide’s world into turmoil.” As for Eric and our favorite telepathic waitress, fans of Charlaine Harris’ books won’t be disappointed. “The spell has created an Eric that never would have existed before, and that is the person Sookie is falling for. They’re both genuinely falling in love.” And where does that leave Bill? “He doesn’t like it one bit,” says Ball. “But eventually the clash between the witches and vampires is going to bring everyone together.”
TV GUIDE MAGAZINE: What’s it like to play your characters now that they’re in such different circumstances this season?
STEPHEN: Bill had to let Sookie go. And in doing so, he’s become a better man and a better king. It’s been great as an actor having that sort of guiding light for him.
JOE: Alcide is wrestling with that beast inside him. I like moments where that thing inside him that he’s so afraid of is also this place of great strength.
ALEX: I love Eric’s vulnerability. But it’s tricky because even though he doesn’t know who he is, you can’t play it too flat. You can’t chop off his balls. Then there’s his inner struggle. If they break the spell, then Eric finds out about all the things he’s done in the past and who he really is, and that scares him. He’s like, “Hey, I’m kind of happy in this little house with Sookie.”
STEPHEN: Eric and Sookie are the tipping point of this season. The best stuff that’s in the show is their stuff.

Joe Manganiello Vist Ryan Seacrest
Joe faces some shirtless competition from Roger, a security guard at the radio station. (RyanSeacrest.com)
Joe Manganiello visited Ryan Seacrest at Los Angeles radio station KISS.FM102.7 yesterday. Before playfully squaring off with E! security guard Roger, Joe talked with Seacrest on his morning show about how long he’s signed on for the show, awkward requests from husbands for their wives and next’s week “crazy” episode where there’s an “interesting showdown” between his character and certain tall blond vampire with amnesia. Wonder if this refers to those “boywiches” we heard about at PaleyFest? It’s about an eight minute audio interview that’s worth a listen .

Marshall Allman Talks Shapeshifting
"Marshall Allman was on E! News yesterday talking about his role as Tommy Mickens on True Blood. He talks about how he prepares to be Tommy (watching The Dog Whisperer amongst other things).
Tommy may be a little, uh, jerk, but Marshall is pretty cute and charming.
Watch the video to see what I mean."

There’s also this Deliverance vibe. Was that intentional?
Ryan: Oh, absolutely! I’m glad that you said that! I think the rawness of that film … there was such a visceral response you got from it. [This season is] supposed to look brutal and dirty. Jason’s life is very much on the line.
Will he ever acquire powers?
I feel personally that he wants a superpower or some sort of supernatural ability more than anybody else on the show. The comical element, then, is to not give a superhero power to that guy who wants it the most. [But] we’ve been sworn to secrecy for a lot of this stuff.
Have you noticed that there’s a certain Golden Girls–eating-cheesecake quality to the way Jason interacts with his sister?
Jason is really in a world of his own for certainly the first half of this season. Anna [Paquin] and I only have maybe two to four scenes together at most each season. Inevitably, we come together at some point — “Well, I almost died another time!” It’s always about an emotional high point. There’s a couple of really sweet scenes that I have this year with Anna. It’s some of my favorite stuff to do.
How much do you work out for this role?
I don’t work out for the role.
What?!
I just work out for my own sanity, to be honest. I grew up in a competitive, sporting environment. It's just sort of part and parcel of who I am. I'm one of three boys, and the easiest way for my mom to deal with all of us was to kick us outside.
Were you a badass as a kid? I heard that you survived a shark attack.
I've lived a very adventurous life. The vision you have is far more outrageous than what really happened. I was 12 years old. I was surfing. I fell off the top of the board trying to do a fancy move and put my hand down into what I thought was the top of a sand bank. I yanked it out, and blood spurted out. I could see the lifeguard rushing down from his tower. They did an analysis at the hospital that said it was a wobbegong shark, which is, like, a shark with no teeth. It just has gums. So I theoretically didn't get bitten by a shark — [laughs] I got gummed by a shark.
It's like blood is a recurring theme in your life: Earlier this year, you saved a guy who was bleeding on the street.
[Sounding embarrassed.] I don't know what it is about me. I very much like to put drama on the screen. And outside, I like to live as drama-free as possible. But I'm a coordinated guy, and somehow trouble likes to find me. I was heading home on a quiet Saturday, and there was a young guy lying in the middle of a busy intersection in Hollywood, just bleeding. So I jumped out of the car and [another man] came over, and together we lifted him off the road and checked his vitals. Then a couple minutes later, the ambulance took him away. Never saw him again.
Before you starred in True Blood, you starred as a surfer on the WB's Summerland, opposite a very young Zac Efron. What do you remember about him?
I always remember that he already had, at that age, a really good work ethic. With young actors coming up you also look at how in tune with the world are they — i.e., could it get to their head? I felt like he had this really old-soul quality to him.
He's pretty buff now, too. What would happen if the two of you arm-wrestled?
Oh, I'm a pretty dirty fighter, so I dare say I'd have him.
Intervju med Anna Paquin
Comparing herself to Sookie, Anna says:
“She doesn’t know just how big what she’s getting herself into is, so she proceeds with full-force Sookie energy. That’s something she and I have in common — completely different circumstances. If I’d known what I was getting myself into, would I have charged full-steam ahead? Who knows. I love where I am now.”
About her relationship with Stephen Moyer:
“You find happiness where you find it,” she said. “And if you’re too scared to take it with potential downsides, I don’t think anyone gets into a relationship that doesn’t have potential difficulties. And if the worst one is that people are going to be staring a little bit more at us in the supermarket, well, it’s a high-class problem.”

Joe Mangniello i Men's Health Magazine
Intervjun:
“I have to look this way,” he told the magazine. “Because somewhere there’s a kid just like I was, who looks at the werewolf in the comic book, then looks up at the screen. And I want him to say, ‘Wow! That’s right, that’s what it looks like’.”
The 34-year-old continued: “I grew up reading comic books. I watched so many comic book movies where the actors weren’t as built as the characters in the book. It made me mad because they didn’t look right.”
“When I was a kid, playing sports in high school and college, there were a lot of other kids who started doing steroids,” he said. “It was something that factored into me not pursuing professional sports.
“For me, it’s really important that I see what I can do naturally. If it means I have to sleep more, take better care of myself and diet more carefully, so be it.”
